NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville man is behind bars for the second time in a month after fleeing from officers in North Nashville Monday night, according to Metro Nashville police.
Police said 22-year-old Cedric Watkins was arrested Sept. 14 on several charges after allegedly driving a stolen car in Antioch; now, he’s facing more charges stemming from his arrest on Sept. 30.
Officers encountered Watkins inside a Ford Explorer when it fled from a traffic stop before he and two others ran from an alleyway between 32nd and 33rd Avenue North. Police said he threw a backpack prior to his arrest — detectives recovered marijuana and a stolen handgun from the backpack. The two other suspects remain at large.
Watkins was already out on a $91,000 bond from his arrest earlier in the month when he was found driving a stolen Dodge Ram on Nolensville Pike, according to police.
“The pickup truck had been reported stolen out of Murfreesboro on September 4th,” police said. “Watkins fled from that traffic stop by Vehicle Crimes detectives. The Ram ultimately lost control on Barnes Road, left the roadway, and struck a Piedmont Natural Gas line, ripping it out of the ground and causing gas to spew into the air. Watkins was arrested and charged with theft, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and vandalism among other charges for that incident.”
